After more than 30 years of effort, China's stainless steel sink industry has become a major producer of stainless steel sinks. After joining the WTO, along with the reduction of import tariffs, high-quality foreign stainless steel sink products will sweep in like a tidal wave. Chinese stainless steel sink enterprises are facing a transformation from a "major stainless steel sink producer" to a "strong stainless steel sink producer," requiring the development of both wings: branding and industrial regionalization.

Innovative Technology and Branding Are the Only Way to Become a Strong Stainless Steel Sink Producer

China's stainless steel sink product exports earn only 3% of total export value. This is not merely a question of technological content, but more importantly a question of branding. Branding includes many elements, including service, reputation, and so on. Reputation is gold, and doing business with integrity is the fundamental way. If the stainless steel sink products we produce were sold under our own brand rather than someone else's label, and could still sell at the same price as OEM sales, then our GDP would have multiplied many times over. To make China's stainless steel sink industry bigger and stronger, the involvement of large consortiums is a key factor. Japan's Panasonic and Sony were not originally in the electrical appliance business, but they are very large consortiums. After seeing the development prospects of household appliances, they all got involved, and now they dominate the world.

How to create China's own brands that match the market is an issue we urgently need to solve. With WTO accession, a large number of internationally renowned brands will pour into China in even greater numbers — this is what we often call "the wolf is coming." "The wolf is coming" is nothing terrifying; the key is that we must have good hunting rifles to block it. Luo Baihui, Secretary-General of the International Mold and Stainless Steel Sink Plastics Industry Suppliers Association, pointed out that the production and marketing development of China's stainless steel sink industry must adapt to domestic and international trends toward internationalization, and use new marketing to drive enterprise development and build an international concept. At present, China's stainless steel sink products have virtually no internationally recognized brands. Take Yongkang in Zhejiang, for example — although it enjoys a great reputation domestically, it is still Zhejiang Yongkang, not China Yongkang — it has not stepped out onto the international stage. I believe that after a period of hard work, more and more Chinese stainless steel sink products will establish internationally recognized brands.

Combining Market and Industrial Regionalization Is a Development Necessity

One issue cannot be ignored: our stainless steel sink manufacturers must prioritize national interests and must never engage in unfair competition for their own benefit. China has a vast territory, and the conditions for economic development vary greatly from region to region. The stainless steel sink industry also has clear regional characteristics, which are related to China's national conditions and are also a feature of China's stainless steel sink industry. Currently, the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions have become the fastest-growing regions in China's economy. In recent years, the Yangtze River Delta economic zone has become the fastest-growing region for foreign investment. Under these circumstances, Jiangsu's stainless steel sink industry possesses enormous advantages, and these advantages can be maintained and elevated through radiation and expansion into the hinterland. For other domestic stainless steel sink industrial bases, they must first recognize that only through comparison can deficiencies be seen, and only through competition can development occur. However, the development of each stainless steel sink industrial belt must adhere to healthy competition among the belts, which will also help strengthen the vitality of the stainless steel sink industry in each region and accelerate economic growth. Doing market work must necessarily be linked to local demand and industrial development. The stainless steel sink market is no exception — this is a requirement of socialist market economy development.
